CAC HBCU College Tour

For 50 years, CAC’s HBCU College Tour has introduced high school students to the culture and academic excellence of Historically Black Colleges and Universities. Annually, 40 to 80 students visit several campuses. Through onsite tours, conversations with university leaders, exposure to academic programs and activities, students learn about higher education. Some participants receive on-the-spot scholarships and admissions offers. Guided with love by trained mentors and chaperones, students realize they can be what they see: future college graduates and leaders.

Diner En Rouge

DER 2026

Diner En Rouge is a lively evening of music, art, and celebration with a purpose: helping students achieve their college dreams. Proceeds support scholarships that recognize academic excellence and leadership. For six years, this event has helped fund renewable and one-time scholarships for high school students as well as other community service programs. These remarkable scholars maintain strong GPAs, demonstrate leadership, and 96% graduate within four years. Diner En Rouge continues to grow, changing lives and opening doors to opportunity.

Bud2024

Each August, CAC proudly supports the legendary Bud Billiken Parade, the nation’s largest African American parade and one of Chicago’s most beloved back-to-school traditions celebrating hope, education, and opportunity. In that spirit, we host our Annual Bud Billiken Back-to-School Book Bag giveaway; School Supplies Drive. From our beloved D’Estee House along the parade route, we welcome families and students while distributing more than 700 book bags filled with supplies. It is one of the many ways CAC advances a lasting legacy of educational support and service.

Gallery DST 2026

When art meets purpose, Gallery DST comes to life. For 24 years, CAC has celebrated artistic expression through this annual exhibition featuring original works by local and national artists of the African Diaspora. From paintings, sculptures, stained glass to mixed media, Gallery DST connects artists with patrons eager to discover and purchase new works. The exhibition recently expanded to include young adult artists. Gallery DST continues to uplift the arts, strengthen community bonds, and foster a deeper appreciation for creativity.

Bernadette Whitt Mental Health Symposium

The Bernadette Whitt Mental and Physical Health Symposium empowers African American communities with knowledge about the health challenges that affect longevity and our quality of life. Hosted by the Mental and Physical Health Committee, the symposium brings together medical experts and advocates to promote awareness, prevention, and wellness through dialogue  and education. Past events have addressed diabetes, suicide prevention, and more. Founded in memory of our dear sister Bernadette Whitt, this annual event continues her legacy of health and hope.

Prayer Breakfast

For two decades, our Annual Prayer Breakfast has created a space for fellowship and worship. Founded by the Chaplain’s Council to deepen bonds through shared Christian values, the event has grown into a cherished tradition welcoming more than 300 attendees. Through prayer, uplifting messages, gospel music, and praise dancing, this public event continues to nourish hearts, strengthen faith, and unity people in purpose. “For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them.” – Matthew 18:20

Social Action Supper

The Annual Social Action Supper brings people together for fellowship and discussions about legislative issues shaping our lives. Elected officials, advocates, and activists inspire civic engagement by sharing ideas and having a conversation with the audience. Held during Black History Month, the Social Action Supper welcomes more than 150 attendees. One example of how the event advances change is its support for what became the Rev. Jesse Jackson, Sr. Young Voter Empowerment Law. Now in effect, the Illinois law allows eligible high school seniors to register to vote before graduation.
